Battle of the Beanfield
Having taken on the miners in 1984/85, the Thatcher government next turned its malevolent gaze on the travelling community. After much harassment and intimidation, matters were brought to a head when over 1300 policemen attacked a convoy of travellers making its way to the 12th free festival at Stonehenge.
What became known as the Battle of the Beanfield was one of the most outrageous examples of a society out of control. Where defenceless men, women and children cannot only be physically attacked by the police, but where all other organs of the state unite to keep the lid on what had occurred.
The Battle of the Beanfield book, plays an important part in reminding us of what happened on June 1st 1985, and how on guard we must all be in protecting our civil liberties.
