Description
Ama is the latest release from Yungchen Lhamo, an album of considerable power and beauty.
Born in a Labour camp in Tibet, Yungchen Lhamo like so many other Tibetans undertook the dangerous journey over the Himalayas to escape the Chinese occupation of her country and the attempt to destroy the ancient and peaceful Tibetan culture. Now settled in the USA, Yunchen has established herself internationally as a leading vocalist blending both traditional Tibetan music with more modern sounds and appearing with such luminaries as Sheryl Crow, Michael Stipe and Annie Lennox.
Not content with releasing 4 albums, the last 3 on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label, Yungchen works tirelessly to promote and preserve her the traditions of her country and to that end has set up her own charity, the Yungchen Lhamo Foundation.
