Description
We wouldn't normally copy quotes from other reviews, but Misfit City decribed Phil Doleman as: 'A mild-mannered cousin to understated poets of everyday Englishness like Squeeze, Billy Bragg, Victoria Wood and John Otway, he writes winsome, charming songs'. Well that seems to sum up Phil Doleman to a T.
Rock & Roll Casualty kicks off with My Name Is Susan, very Billy Bragg with some outstanding keyboards from the multi talented Doleman. Track 2 combines an attempted mugging with the difficulties of being a solo performer, a very neat trick.
The album continues in a similar vein, winsome, charming songs indeed.
