Description
A mighty release indeed. 3 discs, 53 tracks, 14 singles and a 36 page colour booklet on one of the most influential bands of their era. A brief history follows but this splendid release starts with tracks from the early Island days and goes through to tracks from Ian Hunters Rant album.
Mott The Hoople released a string of classic rock singles through the early 1970s (All The Young Dudes, All The Way To Memphis, Roll Away The Stone etc etc) but this was only half the story. They had previously released 4 classic albums on the Island label, to critical but not commercial aclaim, while establishing themselves as one of the top live bands around.
Just as they were about to split up, along came David Bowie who gave them one of his own songs, All The Young Dudes, and rest is history. 2 further studio releases and Ian Hunter and then band member Mick Ronson left to pursue their own careers. The remaining band members dropped The Hoople, made 2 further albums as Mott then became British Lions.
Ian Hunter is still recording and giging and a lot of energy has gone into releasing the MTH back catalogue.
