Description
A new Robb Johnson Cd is always welcome, and All The Way For This, more so than usual. With the Irregulars in full flow, for us this is one of the highlights of the musical year so far.
Robb is well known as a writer and performer of political songs, and rightly so. But those of us who have been listening to his music over the years will appreciate his song writing skills encompass a much wider comment on society. Always literate, Robb’s songs touch on life and love, the absurdities of life and of those ‘in charge’, reflections on just about anything but all will come from his deep rooted humanity and love and respect for the down trodden of the world.
All The Way For This kicks of with the beautiful Carrying Your Smile, and just seems to get better ! No-One Wants To Look Like You and The Beautiful Dark stand out, but on such a strong release it hardly seems fair to pick out individual tracks. But you’ll find that out for yourselves when you have brought this album !
The Irregulars do the album proud, the melodeon playing of Roger Watson gives the album a continental feel in places and the violin playing of Saskia Tomkins just seems to get better and better.
With such an excellent release and backing band, and Robb’s ear for writing the catchiest of tunes, we can’t understand why Robb Johnson And The Irregulars aren’t appearing at every festival in the country this summer. Promoters take note !
