Description
Renowned Tibetan singer and composer Techung, real name Tashi Dhondup Sharzur, presents Tibetan freedom songs, dance songs, drinking songs and love songs in Songs From Tibet. Accompanied on authentic instruments damnyen (lute), piwang (spike fiddle), lingbu (flute) and modern instruments.
Excellent and informative booklet includes extensive info about the artist, his music and the instruments, plus lyrics and photos.
Techung describes himself as a Tibetan folk and freedom singer/songwriter, grew up in exile in Dharamasala, India, and now lives in the USA. In recent years, Techung has had the honor to open for His Holiness the Dalai Lama's public speech in Costa Rica, Japan and USA. On February 3, 2009 Techung and his band Lhasa Spirits performed at the Carnegie Hall with prominent artists such as Philip Glass, Patti Smith and others.
