The sleeve notes on this powerful CD start with the words ‘ The chanting heard on this recording is prayer, not performance. Whenever this recording is played its prayers are effectively said anew’.

Performed by Monks from the Gyuto Monastery, now exiled in India being forced from their rightful location in Lhasa, Tibet.

Mickey Hart was the drummer from the Grateful Dead and was instrumental in getting this recording made when the Monks made their first visit to perform in the USA.

The first track is purely chanted by voice alone, this sound is a speciality of the Gyuto tradition, while the second track includes both voice and traditional monastic instruments.

A very commanding and moving CD.
