Excellent book celebrating the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders Work-In of the early 1970s and published by Smokestack Book’s, publishers of radical poetry (www.smokestack-books.co.uk).


It celebrates the struggle of working people led by the Shop Stewards Committees to keep the ship yards open and their jobs intact.


Ultimately successful, the campaign was boosted by a series of concerts starring The Dubliners, Dick Gaughan, Billy Connolly with John Lennon and Yoko Ono donating to the cause.


A Rose Loupt Oot brings together for the first time, songs written during the UCS work-in as well as songs and poems looking back on the struggle.


Illustrated with cartoons by Bob Starrett and sketches by Ken Currie and an introduction by Ann Henderson, Assistant Secretary of the STUC.
