Red Ukulele – Sputnik Weazel & Hector Gubbins

£5.95 (£4.96 ex. vat)

Sputnik’s 15th album celebrates the small but ever more popular Ukulele. In a world that requires classification, Sputnik has his own “File under” box – Quirky (but entirely enjoyable). Following a chance encounter with multi-instrumentalist Hector Gubbins , the 10 original songs on Red Ukulele were recorded over two sessions at Chateau Weazel , Llandeilo (West Wales). Fuled by vegetarian curry, German lager, and fresh Welsh air. Mr Gubbins plays the banjo, mandolin, guitar, and squeeze box, Finley (Sputnik Weazel Junior) plays the tenor sax on 'Love Lost Found', Mrs Weazel sings backing vocals on 'Pop Tune', and Mr Weazel strumms, hits, and vocalises the rest. In a musical journey that began in the heyday of punk, Sputnik has busked with Eddie Izzard, jammed with Jools Holland, accidentally became a session musician for Sony BMG, and has variously lived in Marseille, Brighton, Newcastle, & Amsterdam (where a weekend visit lasted for five years). Throughout this journey Sputnik has continuously written songs, with over 150 released to date. When not writing or recording in his Welsh hideout, in recent years Sputnik has been spotted drumming for The Men They Couldn’t Hang, The Feral Family, & the Surfin’ Lungs (Wild Punk Records: Spain).
